The past few weeks I’ve been talking a lot about limits, boundaries, lists, self-discipline when it comes to distractions…I thought it would be nice to talk about something fun! After you’ve done such a good job getting (and keeping) yourself on task, you should consider setting up a reward system for yourself. I find this to be especially useful on those days where my desire to get things done is a little lacking.
Sometimes my rewards are little ones. If I find myself wanting to be distracted by Facebook or cruising the web, I’ll set a goal to get a particular task done promising myself some goof-off time when I’ve completed my task. On days that are particularly full or that were comprised of mostly tedious work that leaves me a little brain-numbed, I’ll promise myself an evening of take out in lieu of cooking and reading instead of chores.
It may feel a little silly at first, bargaining with yourself like this. But what I’ve come to realize is I get a lot more enjoyment out of things that I have rewarded myself with after a good day of work than things I just indulged in without getting any work done.
So, give yourself a reward once in a while. You really do deserve it!
