Talk to me Tuesday: Journaling

Talk to me Tuesday: Journaling

In this post on Friday, I shared a link to a free journaling guide. I really enjoyed this guide and saved it because I kind of fail at journaling. You’d think–considering some of what I do for a living is writing–that I’d be a better journaler. But I’m not. Only a small percentage of my pages actually include journaling of any significant length. I’m very critical of my journaling. My memories mean so much to me that I think I’m somehow afraid that my journaling (if it’s not perfect), will actually detract from my pages.

That being said, I know I need to get more comfortable about journaling. There are so many little moments that I could capture in words that could be long forgotten years from now if I don’t. I’m going to make a goal of adding complete journaling to 50% of the pages I create, for the time being. Ultimately, I’d like to get that number up to about 90%–but–baby steps, right?

What kind of journaler are you? Are you the prolific record keeper, detailing every memory or event you scrap at length? Are you the “just the facts ma’am” type, making sure the important stuff is covered but not digging much deeper? Or are you like me–the scant journaler, relying more on good titles or fitting quotes to do the job than actual journaling?
